What You Will Learn

In this highly interactive, practical, HR focused workshop, you will gain the capability and confidence to apply the power of stories in your day-to-day communications. You will learn to make stories that are uniquely yours; you will develop and tell effective HR stories; and you will leave the workshop with ready-to-tell stories that you can use immediately.

Part 1: Foundation

·       Why stories matter in business and how it can be used in HR.

·       The 3-steps to effective business storytelling.

o   Step 1: How to systematically find a story.

o   Step 2: How to logically structure a story.

o   Step 3: How to make your story come to life and connects with others emphatically.

·       A framework to capture your personal experiences and those of others and turn them in powerful stories to help you in your HR communications.  

Part 2: Connecting Stories

·       Develop stories on the qualities you want others to see in you and your HR department; to enhance your credibility and build rapport with others.

Part 3: Stories to Support People Strategy 

·       Develop Empowering Stories to drive your initiatives on value propositions, transmit corporate values, and spread a learning culture.

·       Develop Influencing Stories that supports your HR policies and programs, to inculcate the right employee behaviours, to change mindset, and to tame the grapevine.

Part 4: Build a Storytelling Culture in Your Company  

·       Learn how to make storytelling a habit and a way of life in your company. Examine the practices of some best-in-class companies in how they use storytelling to support their people strategy.

“Once, being the Head of HR of a bank, I had to stand in front of a difficult crowd to talk about a merger and acquisition and the implications to them. I decided to first tell a story of myself. Out of the crowd, I noticed several pairs of shining eyes. You can tell that they were fully immersed in the story. I knew the story had delivered its power and I have made a connection. On another occasion when I was conducting a storytelling workshop to a group of business executives, a participant told a story to the class and at the end of the day, she came to me to tell me how the session had helped her strengthened her belief in herself and her capabilities. There had been several moments like this. And when they happened, I knew I am doing something worthwhile. I knew storytelling has something to offer to the world of business.” 

     Business leadership roles: Head of HR OCBC Wing Hang Bank China, HR Director Sunray Construction, HR Director Hi-P International, HR Manager Seagate Technology. More than 20 years corporate experiences.

     Multi-cultural experience: Based in China more than 10 years. Leadership roles over geographies in China, Japan, Korea, and South East Asia.

     Storytelling and presentation facilitator & consultant: facilitates and delivers programmes for large multinational corporates, universities, and conferences in China and Singapore. Member of the Storytelling Associate of Singapore, Federation of Asian Storytellers, and the Singapore Training and Development Association. Co-founder of LEA Asia.

     Fluent in both English and Mandarin.

     Graduated from the National University of Singapore.
